For the sixth year Rising Sun will participate in the America in Bloom contest. The city, of course, would love to win and we have a good chance since we came in 2nd in 2008 and 2009. But it’s much more than winning. The America in Bloom program is another way for our citizens to continue to work together to plant pride in our community.
How can you be a part? Projects for 2010 can be as simple as picking up litter, planting a tree, planting flowers or any of several other simple projects. The goal is to create partnerships and to make our city a better place to live, work and play, striving for excellence everywhere.
The categories of entries for America in Bloom are “Tidiness”, “Environmental Effort”, “Community Involvement”, “Heritage Conservation”, “Floral Displays”, “Landscape Areas”, “Urban Forestry”, and “Turf & Ground Cover”. Each of these has a specific area of concentration.
We will again have local contest information which will be distributed at the beginning of June. We will again have the Yard of the Week contest and the Largest Tree Contest for the youth. The largest tree contest is sponsored by Main Source Bank and Mayor Bill Marksberry.
The America In Bloom National Judges will be in town July 29 and 30th. If you are interested in being a part of the America in Bloom program please call Janie at (812) 438-1230 or email at denversiekmanep@yahoo.com.
